ScrollMuse cells were discovered in 2010 at Tohoku University by the research group of Professor Mari Dezawa [1]. MuseCell Innovations® is the global IP owner: MCI holds the intellectual property covering the methods used to isolate and enrich authentic Muse cells, developed in direct collaboration with Tohoku University, where the cells were discovered. There is one licensed chain from discovery to vial.
That chain is narrow by design, and it is worth saying plainly why.
Producing authentic Muse cells is highly specialized work. It rests on a deep body of knowledge — not only how to isolate and enrich an SSEA-3-verified population, but how seemingly small modifications to the process can corrupt the outcome. The cell that made the published safety record is a cell produced a particular way; change the method and you have not made a cheaper version of it. You have made something else.
This is also why licensed production does not expand overnight. Standing up a licensed, certified laboratory takes time, and we hold that line deliberately — because the published safety profile of authentic Muse cells belongs to the authentic cell, and to nothing else sold under the name. Products reach the market under this name through three different routes. They are not interchangeable, and the published Muse cell research does not describe all three.

A careful buyer’s instinct is to ask for paperwork — a Certificate of Analysis, an assay report, a facility credential, a laboratory attestation. The instinct is understandable. It is also exactly what sellers of inauthentic material prepare for.
We will be direct about what has been observed in this market: counterfeit Certificates of Analysis. Fabricated authentication documents. Test reports attributed to third-party laboratories — including laboratories styled as university facilities — that do not withstand verification. We have even seen stickers carrying our own logo applied to fake Certificates of Analysis — and to vials. A convincing document is not evidence of an authentic product.
Every document a seller provides is produced or procured by the party making the claim. The only verification instrument a seller does not control is MuseCell Innovations’ own record. Authenticity is established by that record — the published lists, or direct confirmation from our team — and by nothing else.
Authentic Dezawa MuseCells® do carry a lot-specific Certificate of Analysis stating verified SSEA-3(+) identity. But note the direction of the logic: the COA accompanies authentic material; it does not establish it. What establishes it is that the lot, the provider, and the chain can be confirmed with us. If you hold a document and want to know whether it is real, do not evaluate the document. Verify it with MuseCell Innovations.

None of these patterns requires you to evaluate anyone. Every claim dissolves against the same test: is the provider or distributor on MCI’s lists? If not, the material is not authentic Dezawa MuseCells® — whatever the paperwork, whoever appears in the photographs.
The published record on Muse cells describes a specific material. Multiple published studies using MACS-sorted Muse cell formulations at ≥70% SSEA-3+ purity (71.3%–77.1%) demonstrate therapeutic effect across diverse disease models, with statistical superiority over non-Muse MSC controls in head-to-head designs [2–6]. The same body of research documents the safety profile that defines the field: verified SSEA-3 identity, non-tumorigenicity, administration in human trials without HLA matching or immunosuppression [1, 2].
That record belongs to enriched, SSEA-3-verified preparations produced by the licensed methodology. Vendors attempting to work around MCI’s intellectual property may produce material with remarkably different properties — while citing that same research. An unsorted preparation, a differently-sourced preparation, a preparation whose process deviates from the licensed methodology — these are not lesser versions of the studied material. They are different materials, and the published safety record does not transfer to them.
Citing a study performed on one preparation does not make its findings true of another. The science travels with the authentic cell. So does the safety.

Research-use muse cells are sold to laboratories and their label states they are not for human use. Authentic clinical muse cells (which may be labeled for limited clinical use in compliance with regional regulations) is verified for SSEA-3 identity, and administered through authorized clinics. Some research-use material is legitimately licensed from MCI and some is unverified material produced outside MCI’s authorized chain — but either way, muse cells labelled research-use-only are not for patients. A research-use label on stem cell material offered for treatment is the supplier’s own contradiction.
For any cell product: a real product has a named, verifiable source — an accountable manufacturer, a lot-specific identity assay, and a provider whose authorization you can check with the global IP owner.
