Founder, Medical Director & CEO, FACES+ Plastic Surgery, Skin and Laser Center
Dr. Steven R. Cohen is an internationally recognized plastic surgeon and the Founder, Medical Director, and CEO of FACES+ Plastic Surgery, Skin and Laser Center in San Diego. He serves as Clinical Professor in the Division of Plastic Surgery at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Board-certified by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery, he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and led craniofacial surgery at Rady Children's Hospital for nearly two decades.
A recognized innovator in plastic surgery and regenerative medicine, Dr. Cohen developed the first commercially distributed internal craniofacial distraction system (the MID System, manufactured by Stryker) and holds a patent for the Macropore biodegradable distraction device. He also co-invented Lipocube, a system for processing adipose tissue to concentrate regenerative cells for facial applications. His research and clinical work continue to explore regenerative approaches to facial rejuvenation, including the use of exosome-based therapies.
Dr. Cohen serves as Section Editor for Fat Grafting and Stem Cells for the Aesthetic Surgery Journal and is the author or editor of several textbooks, including Regenerative Facial Surgery (2022). His honors include recognition among Newsweek's America's Best Plastic Surgeons (2023–2025), inclusion in Best Doctors in America for more than 20 years, designation as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor since 2002, the 2021 Innovation Award from the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and the 2024 Facialis Academy Lifetime Achievement Award.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Cohen is an accomplished painter whose work is held in private collections internationally. His artistic perspective informs his approach to aesthetic surgery, combining technical precision with an appreciation for form, proportion, and balance.
